Antiques Roadshow fans terrified by ‘haunted’ item with ‘real hair’ | Television and radio | Entertainment and television world

Antiques Roadshow fans were left completely terrified by the sight of a “haunted” antique doll featuring real human hair.

Fiona Bruce, 60, returned to the airwaves from Beaumaris Castle in the heart of North Wales as her team of experts assessed items brought by locals.

However, an element of bbc A teatime spectacle caught fans off guard when antiques dealer Bunny Campione, 77, was presented with a children’s doll.

The contributor told him he gave the unusual item to his wife after discovering it hidden in a storage box.

He told viewers: “I found it in a storage box I bought many, many years ago. I didn’t know what was in that box until we opened it.

“And she was curled up, buried in some towels to keep her safe.” The doll could be seen wearing a cream-colored dress with puffed sleeves and a matching hat tied with a bow.

She also had big blue eyes that moved from side to side when she moved and she sported rosy cheeks and a sweet smile painted on her face.

However, the main detail that scared viewers was the real human hair that had been glued to the doll and styled into a full bang and bun at the nape of the neck under the hat.

It was at that moment when the expert turned the family heirloom over to be able to assess the make and model of the “Google doll.”

He told the enthusiastic guest: “So it says Made in Germany. The 11 represents its size and it says JDK 221.

“That’s mold number 221 and JDK is JD Kestner from Germany. It’s a very, very collectible brand and it’s real hair. It is known as the Google doll. At auction I would estimate between £2,000 and £3,000.”

The collector was taken aback by the surprising valuation and laughed at himself with glee, joking: “We can’t complain about that, can we? Thank you so much.”

However, online fans were less impressed with the valuable doll as they flocked to the comments to share their concerns online.

One user wrote: “I would immediately send him to a haunted museum and not even bother collecting the money (laughing crying emoji).”

Another agreed: “He definitely comes to life at night and trots around the attic,” while a third asked: “Whose hair is it, if it’s ‘real hair?’ Let us hope that it did not occur shortly before or during the Second World War…”

Meanwhile, a third user defended the doll and argued: “I love this! Doll in perfect condition. And not as scary as the others haha.”

Antiques Roadshow airs on Saturdays from 8pm bbc One or catch up bbc iPlayer.
