High water levels prompt evacuations along Edisto River

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – Some people living along the Edisto River are evacuating due to high water levels, according to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

This was posted on his X account, around 10:40 on Sunday morning.

They say Colleton County Fire Rescue is currently evacuating people near the community of Whetstone Crossroads. Residents tell them the water level is higher now than after Debby.

Officers say residents should “heed the warnings and prepare to leave before it’s too late.”

On Saturday night, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office also posted on X warning residents living along the river to prepare for the possibility of emergency evacuations if water levels continue to rise.

They are asking people to sign up for Code Red Alerts to stay informed. Click here to register.
