Zip line plan in Tamar Valley rejected

Tamar Trails is currently home to a Tree Surfers course with boardwalks and zip lines, as well as being a popular walking and horseback riding route.

Zip World unveiled the £2m plan for the new treetop attraction last year after withdrawing a plan for a sleigh ride through the ancient forest.

It also sought permission to create an additional 95 parking spaces and two coach parking spaces at the site.

In its application, the company said some trees would be cut down to make way for the zipline route, but they would be replaced with new native species.

At the time, the project’s wealth consultant, Rob Kinchin-Smith, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service, external The company had a good track record of installing environmentally sensitive systems in protected areas.

He said the zip line would be situated between the two current tree adventure courses and would enhance the experience for people who come to visit them.

“There will be a limited amount of thinning of planting trees and the rails will be under the tree canopy so they will not be visible from a distance,” he said.
