A driver has been seriously injured after the car he was traveling in sank in Dartmouth harbour, Devon.

Police say one person was rescued after the incident, and the vehicle entered the water near the city’s Lifeboat Center.

Emergency services are currently present, with police, ambulances and lifeboat crews visible on Dartmouth’s south embankment.

Police responded to reports of a car in the water shortly after 8.40am on Sunday.

There was no one else in the vehicle when it left the road, police confirmed.

It comes as the public is still asked to avoid the area, while a police cordon remains in place.

Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: “Police were notified at around 8.40am this morning, Sunday 10 November, to reports that a car had plunged into the water outside Dartmouth Lifeboat Centre. .

“Officers and other emergency teams were quickly deployed and are on scene.
