I’m A Celeb welcomes its first arrival! McFly star Danny Jones lands at Brisbane Airport after a severe storm delayed his flight

McFly frontman Danny Jones is the first star to touch down at Brisbane Airport ahead of this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

The 38-year-old arrived with last year’s King of the Jungle, Sam Thompson, former contestant Joel Dommett and radio DJ Kemi Rodgers, who host the spin-off show, I’m a Celebrity… Unpacked.

Danny flew from Heathrow and stayed in Singapore, looking casual and comfortable for the 22-hour flight in a black sweatshirt and jogging pants, along with a guitar in his luggage.

Following in the footsteps of his former band member Dougie Poynter, who won the show in 2011.

A severe storm threatened to divert the plane carrying the first I’m A Celeb stars to Sydney Airport.

But Danny, along with show hosts Sam Thompson, Joel Dommett and Kemi Rodgers were one of the last passengers to land unharmed in Brisbane; all other flights had to make the 1:35 hour detour.

In a hellish experience for passengers, the plane was forced to hover over the runway for some time before being able to land.

Loved among thousands of McFly fans as a heartthrob, Danny will be a sure hit in the jungle as he joins the likes of Coleen Rooney, Maura Higgins and former X-Factor judge Tulisa.

The father-of-one, who has sold more than 10 million records worldwide, leaves behind his wife of 10 years and former Miss England, Georgia Horsley, and six-year-old son Cooper.

Earlier this year, the Bolton-born singer won ITV’s reality singing competition, Masked Singer, hiding under a gigantic piranha costume.

As onlookers chanted “Take it off” at his mask, Cooper watched and was delighted to discover it was his father. He jumped off the couch and hugged Danny shouting, “Dad, it’s Dad.”

Thousands of people watched the touching moment which has since gone viral online.

It’s been a successful year for the pop star, as she also joined The Voice’s prestigious judging panel with the likes of Tom Jones and Will.i.am in the talent show’s first ever ‘double chair’ alongside her partner by McFly band, Tom Fletcher.

McFly rose to fame in 2003 in part due to their association with Busted, as they supported the ’90s pop sensation on her tour.

Danny met Tom Fletcher when he auditioned for the boy band V, and after discovering that they shared common interests, the pair began writing songs with Dougie and Harry Judd, the drummer, joining in.

And then in 2013, the global supergroup McBusted was formed.

Having previously appeared as special guests during McFly’s 10th anniversary concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, it was announced that Busted members James Bourne and Matt Willis would join McFly to form a six-piece pop-punk band, McBusted.

Their eleven-date McBusted Tour sold out quickly and was expanded to 34 shows.

The six-man band made their overseas debut a year later supporting One Direction on their Where We Are tour.

In 2015, the group split, but a reunion was never ruled out, with Fletcher stating: “This definitely doesn’t feel like the end.”

Earlier this year, millennials were delighted when the two bands announced that they were set to take the stage once again in 2025 for the “ultimate battle of the bands.”

Last month, James Bourne said: “The whole tour is about finding out who’s a better band.” The fans can decide. They can come and support your band and they might change their mind. It’s going to be a fight to the death.

The ‘Vs’ tour was announced when Busted burst onto the stage during McFly’s recent 21st birthday show at London’s O2 Arena.

McFly said: ‘Busted has crashed our show (not cool) and challenged us to a VS tour next year.

“They are already old and next year we will take them and their careers off the stage.”

To meet “overwhelming fan demand”, 21 shows have been added to their UK and Ireland tour, with details confirmed for The Finals Battles, with the final three shows taking place in Newcastle, Birmingham and London.
