The Nursing and Midwifery Council had already suspended the nurse last year

A nurse who was caught drinking at work and offering alcoholic drinks to colleagues has been struck off the nursing register.

Jenny Steer was the clinical lead at Country View care home in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

He drank alcohol while on duty and in the presence of colleagues between December 2019 and July 2020, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) heard.

Miss Steer did not attend the hearing but apologized in a written submission at a previous hearing.

She was originally suspended for one year by an NMC panel on November 22, 2023.

In its report, the panel found that “Miss Steer’s misconduct in ‘normalizing’ on-duty alcohol consumption was a serious breach of… professional standards.”

Miss Steer told the panel in writing that she “had made a mistake by drinking alcohol during the shift and offering alcoholic drinks to her colleagues”.

He also expressed remorse for his actions, the panel said.

A review of the suspension order carried out by the NMC on November 4 revealed that she stopped practicing as a nurse in 2020.

He concluded that she “could repeat” the same behavior if she breastfed again.

The panel issued a suspension order, which will take effect on December 20, when the original suspension was due to end.
