GAME SUMMARY: Oilers 7, Canucks 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – In the building where they eliminated the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the 2024 Second Round, the Oilers scored seven goals Saturday night to earn a big win over their Pacific Division rivals.

“It was a step in the right direction,” Connor McDavid said. “It’s not easy to win against a team we have a lot of history with, and this was a great win. Hopefully it’s something we can build on.”

The Oilers led the Canucks 3-2 through 40 minutes before exploding for four goals in a 4:55 span of the third period, getting a pair of goals from Connor Brown and markers from Brett Kulak and Connor McDavid to complete a victory of 7-3. over Vancouver on Hockey Night in Canada, bringing his overall record to .500 this season at 7-7-1.

“It was a solid effort from our group, but the main thing is that third period and how we showed composure and poise,” Brown said. “In the third we made plays with an advantage and we kept going.”

McDavid and Kulak contributed a goal and two assists each, while forward Mattias Janmark helped with three assists in the win. Leon Draisaitl also had a goal and an assist, while Zach Hyman contributed two helpers to reach 200 career assists after the Oilers had six different players record multi-point nights.

Corey Perry and Viktor Arvidsson added second-period goals to round out the scoring for the Blue and Orange on Saturday as two of 12 different Oilers skaters to find the scoresheet against the Canucks.

Edmonton ejected Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen in the third period, ending his night after allowing seven goals on 27 shots, while Stuart Skinner was able to maintain the Oilers’ victory with 17 saves.

Edmonton returns home to host the New York Islanders at Rogers Place in the first game of a two-game homestand on Tuesday.

“Any time you play a team where there’s a little bit of a rivalry and you find a way to win, especially in their building, it’s always important to build momentum and guys have to feel good about themselves and have a great week going,” McDavid said.
