LAWRENCE— kansas basketball survived a furious comeback Friday at home against UNC in a non-conference matchup to win 92-89.

He #1 Jayhawks They led by as many as 20 points early, but No. 10 North Carolina made it a game again in the second half. This was the first game between these two teams since the 2022 national championship in the NCAA tournament. Kansas won that matchup and was able to do it again tonight thanks to the efforts of Hunter Dickinson, Zeke Mayo and more.

Here’s what happened inside Allen Fieldhouse:

How to watch Kansas basketball play UNC in 2022 national championship rematch

It’s still close down the stretch, but Kansas has regained the lead. The Jayhawks are up 91-89 with just over a minute left in the second half. Hunter Dickinson gave Kansas this lead with a basket off an assist from Zeke Mayo, who leads all scorers with 21 points.

This is by no means a time to panic for Kansas, but the Jayhawks are trailing with three and a half minutes left in the second half. UNC has outscored Kansas by 18 points in the second half.

One thing that should be a cause for concern, however, are two Kansas starters who are in foul trouble. Both Hunter Dickinson and Dajuan Harris Jr. will have to play the rest of the game with four fouls.

UNC is on a 9-0 run in the final minute and now trails by just two points. So far, North Carolina is 25 of 27 tonight from the free throw line. Kansas, on the other hand, is just 7 of 11 in that regard.

Kansas has started to find its form again and still leads by nine points with just under 12 minutes left in regulation. The Jayhawks have seen Zeke Mayo shine here lately, and his final jumper led to 17 points. That brings Kansas and all scorers so far tonight.

North Carolina has started the second half as well as it started the first, and is now only nine points behind. The Jayhawks are really struggling to get it right. Kansas has also been fortunate that coming into this break in the action, UNC has missed a couple of open 3-pointers.

One statistic to keep in mind is the points derived from turnovers. So far, Kansas has 10 points off seven North Carolina turnovers. UNC has no points thanks to three Jayhawks turnovers.

Kansas had to deal with Hunter Dickinson committing a couple of fouls in the first half, but that hasn’t hurt them much. The Jayhawks are up 14 points with less than four minutes left in the first half. When Flory Bidunga came on for a few more minutes in place of Dickinson, overall Bidunga played well.

Zeke Mayo hit a couple of threes that really got him and the crowd going. Rylan Griffen recently made a great block defending a UNC shot. The fans had a lot to cheer about here in the first half.

Kansas is in control now and has its biggest lead at seven points. The Jayhawks have been able to get in often against UNC and have their fair share of dunks so far. KJ Adams Jr. and AJ Storr have sent fans into a frenzy inside Allen Fieldhouse.

Adams leads all scorers with 10 points. He is 5 of 6 from the field. He and his Kansas teammates have generally been very efficient on offense.

UNC got off to a fast start and led as much as 7-2, but the Jayhawks responded. Just over four minutes into the first half, Kansas trailed 9-7. RJ Davis leads North Carolina with five points.

On the Kansas side, KJ Adams Jr. leads the way with four points. Rylan Griffen hit a critical three-pointer. Hunter Dickinson has missed both of his field goals so far.
