No. 6 Penn State dominates Washington in 2024 White Out: Live update roundup

FINAL: Penn State 35, Washington 6

FOURTH QUARTER

4:50- Penn State put this on ice with a 1-yard Kaytron Allen touchdown. The Nittany Lions’ drive lasted 16 plays, 70 yards and nearly nine minutes.

On the drive, freshman running back Corey Smith made his Penn State debut with an 8-yard run on first down. Tyler Warren also set a pair of Penn State single-season records for yards and receptions by a tight end.

Pennsylvania State 28, Washington 6

13:33- Abdul Carter had his second sack of the night on third down to push Washington out of touchdown range. Jedd Fisch opted for another field goal despite the huge deficit.

THIRD QUARTER

Pennsylvania State 28, Washington 3

0:00- Washington went for it on fourth-and-12 in scoring range, and quarterback Demond Williams (who relieved Will Rogers in the second half) launched a prayer into the end zone. PSU cornerback Jalen Kimber was tagged for defensive pass interference, giving the Huskies new life late in the quarter. They will have a second and 5 from PSU 5.

6:09- A wild sequence took place as the second half began. Penn State’s Nick Singleton took the opening kickoff to score a touchdown, but a questionable call returned it. Star tight end Tyler Warren caught a pass over the middle and fumbled, giving Washington the ball with a scoring opportunity. Upon review, the fumble was upheld despite being close, one similar to Ohio State’s fumble last week that was ultimately ruled an incomplete pass.

Washington didn’t fully take advantage of the opportunity and drove to the PSU 6 before kicking a field goal, another questionable call with such a large deficit.

Penn State kicker Ryan Barker missed a 44-yard kick on the Nittany Lion’s next drive, the first miss of his young career.

SECOND QUARTER

Pennsylvania State 28, Washington 0

0:00- Washington decided not to go for a fourth-and-1 opportunity in the two-minute timeout near its 40, and Penn State made the Huskies pay. The Nittany Lions drove down the field with ease, 68 yards in the two-minute drill, culminating in the first touchdown of wide receiver Julian Fleming’s PSU career. It is also the first touchdown by a Penn State wide receiver in Big Ten play.

State of Pennsylvania 21, Washington 0

3:23- Penn State capitalized on Jaylen Reed’s interception. Tyler Warren scored his second rushing touchdown of the night, this time with a little more ease around the left edge. OL Vega Ioane opened things up for him with an edge block.

Pennsylvania State 14, Washington 0

7:31- PSU safety Jaylen Reed ran under a deep, ugly ball and intercepted it. His third interception of the year and he continues to play at an All-Big Ten pace.

9:22- Tight end Tyler Warren, who seems to always appear in the White Out, has another touchdown. He made a wild move and jumped two yards over the line of scrimmage to extend the lead. Wide receiver Harrison Wallace III is off to a great start with four catches and 56 yards.

FIRST QUARTER

State of Pennsylvania 7, Washington 0

0:00- Abdul Carter with his seventh sack of the season (and a forced fumble recovery by Washington) helped Penn State get off the field after his touchdown. The Lions offensively face a third down in their own territory after the quarter break.

3:47- Penn State moved down the field with relative ease on its first drive to score, its third opening touchdown of the season. Backup quarterback Beau Pribula took a speed option to the left side and had a wide lane to the end zone. After a brief review, the play was confirmed.

Penn State benefited from a call-up to Washington’s Thaddeus Dixon, who was the Huskies’ top tackle cornerback this season. PSU running back Nick Singleton looked fresher than ever with 31 yards on four carries.

7:48- Washington went 13 plays and 42 yards on its first drive, consuming just over seven minutes of time. However, the Huskies kicked a 45-yard field goal from the right upright, keeping it scoreless.

Penn State had an offsides penalty on DT Zane Durant and a holding penalty on DB Zion Tracy (on third down) that helped the Huskies extend the drive.

15:00- Penn State won the toss and held off until the second half. Washington will start with the ball.

STATE COLLEGE — The White Out is here.

No. 6 State of Pennsylvania (7-1) and Washington (5-4) will meet at 8 p.m. at Beaver Stadium in Peacock. Penn State is coming off its first loss of the season to No. 2 Ohio State, while the Huskies won a close one last week against former Pac-12 rival USC.

Washington is led by first-year head coach Jedd Fisch, who came from Arizona after Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama. DeBoer and last year’s Huskies ranked second nationally behind Michigan, but tons of stars from that team left for the NFL or through the transfer portal.

Quarterback Will Rogers, a transfer from Mississippi State, runs the show, while running back Jonah Coleman has surpassed 100 yards in consecutive games. Defensively, Washington has the second-best passing defense in the country in terms of yards allowed.

PRE-GAME UPDATES

—Starting defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton and key defensive tackle Coziah Izzard were listed as questionable on the pregame availability report. They both warmed up in full uniform.

—Beaver Stadium met James Franklin Introduction to the video board before the game with a lot of boos.
