Smith Rowe shines as Fulham overcomes 10-man Palace

LONDON: Fulham cruised to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday with goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson, while the home side were reduced to 10 men when Daichi Kamada was shown the red card for a dangerous entry.

Fulham’s victory helped Marco Silva’s team provisionally climb to sixth place in the table with 18 points, while Palace are in 17th place, one point above the relegation zone.

Palace were without several injured players and Oliver Glasner’s side struggled to test Fulham, with Jean-Philippe Mateta picking up the slack while Wilson made an impact off the bench for the visitors for the second time in five days.

Fulham dominated possession from the start and although their midfielders found plenty of space to operate and create chances, they squandered the goal as Dean Henderson made two reflex saves to deny the visitors.

Smith Rowe had a golden chance to give Fulham the lead when they won the ball back high up the pitch, but defender Maxence Lacroix ran in and launched a sliding challenge, touching the ball first before leaving the striker in a heap.

Palace finally got into the game and almost scored late in the first half when Mateta beat goalkeeper Bernd Leno with a cross and headed a header towards goal, but Joachim Andersen cleared the ball off the line.

However, pressure from Smith Rowe forced an error from Lacroix before Raúl Jiménez passed to the midfielder, and the 24-year-old pulled the trigger with his left foot to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

Fulham thought they had doubled their lead six minutes into the second half with a sublime counter-attack that opened up Palace, but Smith Rowe’s shot was disallowed for offside after a lengthy VAR check.

Palace’s afternoon went from bad to worse in the 76th minute when Kamada was sent off for diving into a tackle on Kenny Tete, making contact with the right-back’s shin to give the referee no option but to brandish a red card.

Fulham immediately took the lead with 10-man Palace when Alex Iwobi fed Wilson and beat Henderson to make it 2-0 with his third goal in two games.

Wilson, who scored twice in Monday’s 2-1 win over Brentford, had the ball in the back of the net again in stoppage time when he controlled a cross and shot on goal, but the ball was disallowed by VAR. by a hand from the Welsh winger. .
