One person dead, another in custody after crash in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – One person is dead after a crash on County Highway A in Monroe County Thursday morning.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with another vehicle.

David Wilcox, 63, of Tomah, was driving the crashed vehicle. He died at the scene. A Wilcox passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

Before the accident, authorities were trying to find the vehicle that crossed into the other lane. He was reported to have been driving erratically after crashing into a sign in the city of Sparta. Krisoffer Cattle of Tomah, 39, was driving that vehicle. Cattle was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail.

The sheriff’s office is recommending charges for Cattle that include homicide by use of a motor vehicle while intoxicated, reckless homicide and operation after suspension causing death.

The cattle will be in court on Monday.
