Suspect shot by Pinellas County deputies after charging at them with semi-automatic pistol, authorities say

Pinellas County Officers shot an armed man who attacked them Friday night, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The Pinellas County Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was activated to investigate the shooting.

Authorities say officers responded to a domestic incident at 2501 47th Avenue North around 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers say a 37-year-old woman met them outside with her teenage son and daughter.

According to the teenager, her mother’s common-law partner, Jeremy Lyle Reed, 42, had pointed a gun at her inside the house.

Police say the teen told officers that Reed pointed the gun at her and said something like, “Are you ready to have some fun?”

According to SPPD, officers moved the woman and her teenage children to a safer area north of the home and began setting up a perimeter around the home to prepare to arrest Reed.

Investigators say Reed, armed with a gun, left the home and ran toward the officers and the victims.

Three officers fired on Reed and shot him, according to officials. Officers say he was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and no one else was injured.

The police department says the officers involved were:

  • Rep. Jessee Creaser, sworn in September 27, 2021
  • Representative Dylan Schultz, sworn in on 7-10-23
  • Corporal Stuart Kellman, sworn in 4-7-14

They were assigned to paid administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
