Seventeen people have been taken to hospital following an accident involving two double-decker buses in Manchester.

The accident, believed to involve two Bee Network buses, took place between Rochdale Road and Livesey Street at around 8.34am on Saturday.

The accident occurred near the city center and was attended by nine ambulances.

An air ambulance, two response vehicles and an advanced paramedic also attended the scene.

Footage taken by witnesses shows the front of a bus completely destroyed by the force of the collision, with the windows broken.

The North West Ambulance Service said 17 injured people were taken to hospitals around Manchester, but no one was seriously injured.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At 8.30am we were called to reports of a traffic collision between two buses on Rochdale Road, Manchester.

“Emergency services are on scene and roads remain closed.” “No serious injuries have been reported.”

It comes as the spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed: “Nine ambulances, one air ambulance, two response vehicles, one advanced paramedic and one operational commander attended the scene.

Seven of the injured were taken to hospital “in a bus accompanied by a paramedic,” the ambulance service confirmed.

“No one suffered serious injuries.”

Stephen Rhodes, head of buses at Transport for Greater Manchester, wished those injured in the crash a “speedy recovery”.

Rochdale Road has now reopened and delays in the area are expected to continue later in the day.
