Mick Schumacher offers rare insight into father Michael 10 years after life-changing accident – F1

Mick, the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, has given fans an insight into his father, more than 10 years after the horrific ski accident.

In December 2013, Schumacher suffered life-changing injuries after an accident in the French Alps.

The German was airlifted to Grenoble hospital, where he remained in an induced coma until June 2014.

Since then, very few details have been made public as the Schumacher family decided to keep his condition private.

Former FIA president and Ferrari team boss Jean Todt said last year: “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. (But he) is just not the Michael he used to be. He is different and doing wonderfully. guided by his wife and children who protect him.

“His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That’s all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago. He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1.”

Now, Michael’s son, mickwho is currently Mercedes’ reserve driver, spoke to Matt Whyman for his new all-access book titled ‘Inside Mercedes F1’.

Mick spoke about his relationship with his father when he was younger and also highlighted what he learned from F1 legend.

As reported per Yahoo!, the 25-year-old said: “I was a crazy kid; everything my father did, I did.

“He was very supportive and very fun, but he could also be a challenge. Once, in a karting race, I braked very late entering a corner and gained a lot of time. When I told him about it, he said, ‘Yes.’ but you should have braked like that on every corner!'”

Mick added: “I started racing in Formula classes the year after (the accident) and from then on I had to find my own way.

“But I definitely learned a lot of technical points from him that I still use today, as well as from his training. And I’ve always been very resilient.”

Mick last raced in F1 for the Haas team but was replaced after a series of accidents. There have been reports linking him with a return to the grid by 2025, but for now it looks like he will have to wait. A little more to get back to the sport.
