Ariana Grande returned to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) in October, where not only her monologue, but also the comedy sketch Charades With Mom gained a lot of attention. In the sketch, Ariana played a competitive but tough woman. She recently shared that the idea for the sketch was inspired by her mother, Joan Grande, who is very competitive in real life and can’t see herself losing a game. The Wicked star explained that while her family was playing charades over Labor Day weekend, the game started off smoothly but became intense when her brother-in-law, Hale Grande’s brother, became overly competitive and made fun of the mother. from Ariana, which sparked a hilarious and unexpected reaction. that became the concept for the SNL sketch.

While appearing on iHeartRadio’s Las Culturistas podcast, the Thank U, Next singer explained, “It was so fun, sweet, and my mom is the most generous and kind person in the entire world. She is simply the best, but competitive and fiercely protective of her children. Even if we’re playing charades or whatever, it’s okay. We were playing charades and my brother-in-law’s brother was like, ‘Haha, we’re winning,’ vibe, he was like, ‘Woohoo, we’re ahead, pull back, we’re ahead,’ and my mom’s like, ‘Tiny D Syndrome* **’, and I was like, ‘Mommy, that’s not funny, that’s intense and harmful.'”

“We all laughed, and of course he laughed, but she said, ‘Well, that’s a sign of what it is,’ and I said, ‘Mommy, this is crazy,’ and then I started doing it like a little for me. Hail’s other brother was crying, so I was like, ‘Joan, we have to do something with this, please, it’s so dumb,'” Ariana Grande added.

The singer further explained that her family is extremely serious when it comes to gaming, but she is different. Unlike her mother, brother Frankie, and brother-in-law Hale, Ariana just wants to have fun. She doesn’t care about winning and is happy to just play, despite not knowing all the rules. According to Ariana, Hale is passionate about games and knows some that no one else would have heard of. Frankie, on the other hand, hates losing and his mother is similar.

Ariana Grande will appear with Cynthia Erivo in Wicked, scheduled for release on November 22.
