Police looking for man who robbed a store with a rifle

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – Birmingham police are seeking help identifying a man accused of a robbery at the Family Dollar on Bessemer Road in October.

Ken Atkinson with Metro Alabama Crime Stoppers says fortunately no one was injured during the incident, even though the suspect was armed with a rifle. However, he expressed concern that future incidents could escalate.

The robbery occurred on the night of October 30, 2024 in the 1300 block of Bessemer Road. Atkinson stated that they received several tips, which were forwarded to Birmingham Police Department detectives.

However, this case is still open and they need the public’s help to solve it. He emphasized the seriousness of a situation in which someone entered a store openly carrying a rifle.

“It’s bad enough that a store is robbed, but if you’re a customer there, you could also be robbed or hurt. This is clearly a dangerous individual who is willing to enter a place of business with a long gun. He’s not being discreet, which should definitely raise public concern. The police need your help to identify him so they can press charges against him,” Atkinson said.

As always, tips to Crime Stoppers can be submitted anonymously and if your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward.
