Community vigil honors life of 15-year-old Bingham High School student

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — Just days after 15-year-old Logan Hansen was killed in an explosion at his home in southern Jordan, hundreds of people gathered to remember and honor his life.

Students, friends, family and loved ones surrounded the ‘B’ outside Bingham High School Friday night.

With candles in hand, many tears were shed as stories were shared.

“He was a fantastic kid, I love him so much,” said Josh Hansen, Logan’s father. “I feel very honored that you all came here tonight to help me with my son.”

Logan’s two sisters, Dakota and Jersey, also spoke in front of the crowd and became emotional as they described what their brother meant to them.

“I just want to say that I love my brother and he died a hero,” Dakota said.

Through the tears there were some lighter moments.

“He would always send me random videos and they were so funny but so stupid and didn’t make any sense, I’m really going to miss them,” Jersey said.

Joaquín Hernández shared some of the best memories he had with his friend Logan. That included the first time they met.

“I met Logan in sixth grade and I met him through a staring contest, it doesn’t make sense but to us it does,” Hernandez said.

While he mentioned the times they played Minecraft together, Hernandez also talked about the impact Logan had on his life.

“He was always there when I was going through a bad time, he listened to me,” Hernandez said.

Logan’s older brother, Jordan Hansen, talked about the excitement of knowing he was going to be a big brother when Logan was born.

“It was a privilege and an honor to grow up with him and be that big brother to him,” Jordan said.

Jordan even shared the pranks he played on his younger brother.

“One time we had a ladder and I would put hangers on his shirt while he was wearing it and hang it on the ladder and he would laugh about it,” Jordan said.

During the vigil, those who attended were able to write down cherished memories they shared with Logan.

At the end of the event, a moment of silence was observed. Blue glow sticks and cell phones, some of which also glowed with blue light, were held in the air. We’re told that blue was Logan’s favorite color.

“I’m going to miss him so much, I love you Logan,” Josh said.

On Thursday, local fire investigators determined the cause The house explosion was due to a natural gas leak.

The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating the incident.

A team of NTSB investigators is headed to the scene and is expected to arrive Saturday.
