Deputies warn residents about phone scams in Macon County

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Macon County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam.

According to the sheriff’s office, the caller is posing as an agent with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and telling residents that their bank accounts have been hacked.

The caller goes on to say that the resident should withdraw all of their money in case someone from the FTC comes to pick it up.

Officials said the FTC will never tell residents to withdraw funds and give them to someone.
