Topeka man arrested after chase and vehicle crash

SHAWNEE COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) – A Topeka man was arrested following a vehicle chase on Thursday, November 7.

According to Sheriff Brian C. Hill, a 48-year-old man is in custody following a vehicle chase and crash Thursday night that began near the 2100 block of SE Adams Street.

A Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a gold Buick LeSabre with a license plate belonging to a black Lincoln Continental near SE 21st Street and SE Adams Street shortly before midnight Thursday.

The vehicle had a defective headlight and the driver refused to stop and began a chase.

The officer ended the chase near SW 15th Street and SW Topeka Boulevard due to safety concerns.

Officers continued to search the area and located the abandoned vehicle after it crashed into an unoccupied vehicle and landed in a front yard.

Officers and officers from the Topeka Police Department located the driver in the 1500 block of SW Fillmore Street and he was taken into custody.

Carlos E. Moore, 48, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

Moore was arrested on the following charges:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Running away from him trying to evade law enforcement.
  • Operating a vehicle without registration or with an expired tag
  • Defective headlights
  • Failure to stop at a stop sign
  • Operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license
  • Marijuana possession
  • Not stopping in an accident

Additional charges are pending.

This incident is still under investigation.
