Michigan-Indiana Score Predictions from MLive Beat Writers

Michigan has won 27 of its last 28 games against Indiana, but will head to Bloomington on Saturday. like a two touchdown loser.

The Wolverines’ plummet into 2024 continued last week against No. 1 Oregon, falling 38-17 for their third loss in the last four games. Another top-10 team is at play this week against the surprising, undefeated Hoosiers (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten), who have won every game this season by double digits.

Indiana has yet to face a ranked team, but the numbers it has posted on both sides of the ball are staggering: No. 2 in scoring offense (46.6 points per game), No. 8 in total offense (476.2 yards per game) , No. 4 in sacks (31), No. 6 in sacks allowed (seven), No. 7 in scoring defense (13.4 points per game) and No. 10 in turnover margin (plus-10).

Will that success continue against Michigan (5-4, 3-3), or will the Wolverines maintain their recent dominance over the Hoosiers? Here are score predictions from MLive’s beat writers:

Aaron McMann

First-year head coach Curt Cignetti deserves high praise for his 9-0 start at Indiana, which boasts one of the most prolific offenses in the country with transfer quarterback Kurtis Rourke. The Hoosiers spread the field horizontally and take everything the defense offers, and the Wolverines are known for giving up a bit.

Assuming Will Johnson doesn’t play, Michigan’s secondary could be in for a long, frustrating day in Bloomington. Just like against Oregon, it will be up to the offense to stay away… and there’s little evidence to convince that will happen. Prediction: Indiana 34, Michigan 17

Are Hoosiers for real? That’s been a major story throughout their scorching start under Cignetti, as they’ve beaten mid-to-weaker teams in the Big Ten so far. Michigan is certainly in the middle of the pack, which is why Indiana is the betting favorite against Michigan for the first time since 1968.

The Wolverines’ running game has struggled in recent weeks, and turning it on against a Hoosiers defense that ranks first nationally against the run will not be an easy task. Davis Warren looked more comfortable behind center last week against Oregon, and I expect that to continue on Saturday. But Michigan’s defense is banged up and the snap counts are starting to add up for the team’s best players. I don’t see him holding up for four quarters against this high-flying Hoosiers offense. The Wolverines stay close and covered, but Indiana keeps its undefeated season alive: Prediction: Indiana 31, Michigan 22

Gluttons are a two touchdown loser heading into Saturday’s game at No. 8 Indiana, and the Hoosiers also have a dark horse candidate to win the Heisman Trophy.

What evidence do we have that this Saturday’s game will be very different from last Saturday’s? Indiana’s offense is actually better, statistically, than Oregon’s, and the defense has held up. Additionally, a normally dull atmosphere should be livened up by the visit of the defending national champions.

In a matchup of new head coaches, Curt Cignetti moved through the portal, while Sherrone Moore took a much more conservative approach. Michigan can’t use the portal the same way Indiana can, but you can bet Moore will be more aggressive this offseason than last. Of course, none of that will matter on Saturday. It doesn’t look like Michigan will get that sixth win to be bowl eligible in Bloomington. Prediction: Indiana 34, Michigan 17
