Los Angeles Kings forward faces hearing after dangerous hit

It seemed like a foregone conclusion. Kings of Los Angeles after striker Tanner Jeannot delivered a dangerous hit in their match against the Vancouver Canucks. Jeannot crushed forward Brock Boeser with an illegal check that appeared to make contact with only Boeser’s head.

The NHL Department of Player Safety responded quickly to the actions of the kings forward. In an unsurprising move, they shared that Jeannot will have a hearing over the check. The Department announced the update through its X account.

The decision to have a hearing with Jeannot indicates that he could face a decent suspension. Typically, a phone call is the first level of action taken during a questionable play or hit. But according to the Department of Player Safety guidelinesAn in-person hearing is required when the disputed incident could result in a suspension of six games or more.

“If the violation would require a suspension of six games or more,” the rules state. “The offending Player is offered the opportunity for an in-person hearing. In this case, the Player remains suspended until the hearing is held. If the Player waives his or her right to an in-person hearing, the hearing will be held out by phone.

Jeannot will likely be watching six games or more after his hearing. It will be a big loss as the Kings are one of the best teams in the NHL to start the campaign.

This is Jeannot’s first season in Los Angeles. Previously playing with the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning, he signed a two-year contract with the Kings last summer.

He has appeared in all 15 season games for the Kings this year, playing primarily in a fourth-line role. The gritty, physical winger has one goal and one assist so far while averaging 10:28 minutes of ice time.
