Teenager who died in explosion is remembered as “brother and beloved son”

The boy who died when a house exploded in southern Jordan was remembered by a family spokesman as a “dear brother and son, nephew and grandson.”

Kee’Onu Fuller said the boy, whose name his family asked investigators not to reveal, was 15 years old and a student at Bingham High School.

“Just like any high school student, he had friends, a community of friends and a lot of people who loved him and cared about him,” Fuller said.

PREVIOUS REPORTS:

According to a Bingham High teen who spoke to 2News, the school announced the boy’s death to students and told them counselors were available.

“He liked playing video games and he was good at it,” Fuller said. “He was very smart when it came to many things.”

Fuller could not say whether the family, identified as the Hansens in a GoFundMe campaign, had smelled natural gas before the explosion.

The mayor of southern Jordan, Dawn Ramsey, posted on GoFundMe on their Facebook page.

The boy was the only one at home in the family of five.

A fire department spokesperson said the Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Crews from Enbridge, the gas company and South Jordan Fire were also on scene Thursday.
