Shooting that left Jackson officer injured allegedly began when suspect shot his brother

JACKSON, Michigan. – TO Jackson officer injured, suspect killed in a shooting that allegedly stemmed from a shooting involving the suspect’s brother.

Suspect shoots brother in Lenawee County

On November 6, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office notified Jackson County Central Dispatch that a suspect had allegedly shot his brother at 4:30 p.m.

A tracking device showed the suspect’s vehicle traveling through Jackson County.

Suspect found in Jackson County, manhunt begins

Jackson officers located the suspect’s brown pickup truck in the 1000 block of Cooper Street on the city’s east side.

Officers coordinated with deputies to stop the vehicle, but as authorities approached the truck, the suspect sped away.

A chase ensued, and within a minute, the suspect began shooting at officers and officers, according to police.

During the chase, several houses and cars were shot at. No residents were injured, but one officer was shot.

Shot at Sergeant Jackson

According to police, a sergeant was shot at 5:41 pm at Van Dorn and Elizabeth streets.

The bullet allegedly passed through his arm and entered his body. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is in “good condition,” police said.

Suspect killed during exchange of gunfire

Law enforcement officers were able to take the suspect into custody, but several shots were exchanged and the suspect was hit.

Measures were taken to save the suspect’s life at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The officers and deputies were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting, according to department policy.

Michigan State Police will investigate.

Homemade bombs found in suspect’s vehicle

Several pipe bombs were found in the suspect’s vehicle. Authorities believe he threw them out of his car during the chase.

If anyone sees any of them, they should not pick them up and call 911 to report their findings.
