Red flag alert due to persistent dry weather

Our last day of the work week will conclude with more sun and very dry air. Once again, we have a red flag alert posted for the region for high fire danger.

The difference between the actual forecasted afternoon temperature in the 60s and the dew point in the 30s will be quite high, meaning the relative humidity is actually quite low. This occurs when the gap between the dew point and the temperature is greater. Low relative humidity means that increased evaporation combined with a lack of rain will increase the risk of fire.

As a dry cold front passes through the region tonight, colder air will arrive and leave us with below average temperatures for Saturday. Afternoon readings will reach near 50 degrees after starting in the upper 30s in the morning. Winds will still be a little gusty in the afternoon and if you have field games you are watching or playing, just be aware of the cooler temperatures.

Sunday starts out bright and sunny, but clouds will increase as the weather system approaches from the west. Clouds are likely to fill the sky at the end of the day.

By Monday morning, there will be a few hours of shower activity that will leave between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain. This is a relatively insignificant amount, but every little bit will help.

This weather system is moving fast enough that there will be showers when you wake up on Monday, Veterans Day morning. I think the sun will return in the afternoon with temperatures around 60 degrees. It gets cooler thereafter with temperatures in the 50s for much of next week.
