Man Utd news: Amad Diallo keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford

Amad Diallo, winner of Manchester United’s Europa League match, wants to extend his stay at the club. His current contract expires in the summer, although United have the option to extend that deal for a further year.

The Ivorian said in the summer that his aim was to remain at Old Trafford and clearly nothing has changed after his brace against Greek champions PAOK gave United their first Europa League victory this season and their first victory in continental competition in 12 months.

“I’m happy to be here, happy to play for this club and yes, I want to stay here for a long time and make history here,” Amad said.

Talks about an extension have been held with the expectation that Amad will sign a new deal that will run until 2027.

Their efforts were much needed against PAOK and they turned what interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy described as a disappointing first half into a winning second half performance.

For Amad, it was the perfect way to respond to a frustrating month in which he was unable to start a game.

“I always do my best, even when I’m not a starter,” he said. “Everyone wants to play, but I try to stay focused. I was (United) player of the month in August, but now I’ve moved on and am focused on the future.”

The imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim from Sporting offers Amad another chance to impress, even if United’s new manager does not typically use orthodox players.

Amad is not the only one who is not clear what role Amorim will require of him. But he looks forward to the challenge.

“I’m excited to have him on this team and I can’t wait to work with him,” he said.
