Christopher Knight Says ‘Brady Bunch’ Producers ‘Lied to Me’ Before Filming with Real Spider: ‘I Was Terrified’

The former child star said he was misled by the details.

Christopher Knight says he was tricked into working with a real spider during his brady bunch days.

On Thursday, November 7, the former child star, 67, appeared on the NBC show. Today with his brady bunch co-stars Barry Williams and Eva Plumada – who played his siblings Greg Brady and Jan Brady, respectively, and discussed several nostalgic moments from the comedy.

One memory Knight can’t forget comes from a Season 4 episode filmed in Hawaii called “Pass the Tabu.”

The scene called for Knight’s character, middle son Peter Brady, to wake up in his bed with a tarantula crawling up his body toward his face. However, the actor says he was misled by the details.

“Yes, they lied to me. They told me they put ball bearings in his fangs so he couldn’t inject (anything),” he said. Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Carson Daly from what the producers told him at the time.

Knight continued, “I was terrified, but I was perfectly terrified because I was able to prove myself heroically to the ladies. I shouldn’t let them know that I’m scared to death.”

Williams, 70, recalled the scene vividly, adding: “And that was a real spider and there was nothing under it, it was on him. And then I went in and I had to figure out how to get it off of him.”

While Williams played Brady’s older brother on camera, he channeled the role in real life when it came to safely taking out Knight’s creepy tracker.

“I had a pet tarantula and I didn’t want it to get hurt, so I was able to pick it up and let it land,” he said.

Meanwhile, Plumb, 66, recalled that the Brady girls had their own special pet on set, although cat Fluffy eventually “just faded away” after the sitcom’s pilot episode.

“That’s television,” he added. “Things come and go.”

Adding to his point, Knight recalled that Fluffy’s replacement, tiger the dogHe also disappeared from the show without explanation after the second season.

“Seeing the first few shows with Tiger – Tiger is a big element, you’re right,” Knight said. “And he just disappears.”
