Brighouse shoppers and businesses slam rising parking fees

Samuel Garfurth, who had recently moved to Brighouse, agreed that the fare should have been kept at 40p.

He added: “There’s not much parking here anyway. The last thing the city needs is for people to be discouraged from coming here to shop.”

Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “We understand that increasing parking charges is never popular, but pricing is the most effective way to manage pavement space. A recent survey found that spaces Roads in Brighouse are sparse and occupancy remains high most days.

“Due to this continued demand, we have identified that parking charges could be used to better manage space on the city’s pavements and encourage the use of car parks in and around the city centre, where data showed that even At peak times, there are more than 100 spaces available.”
