San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Thursday afternoon, where he was asked about the running back’s status. Christian McCaffrey. Shanahan expressed optimism about McCaffrey’s progress and noted that he feels good about his possible return.

McCaffrey, sidelined by Achilles tendinitis, has yet to make his debut in the 2024 season. However, it appears increasingly likely that he will suit up for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.

The 49ers opened McCaffrey’s practice window this week, hinting that they could activate him from injured reserve in time for the weekend showdown.

“I feel good one way or another,” Shanahan joked, trying to avoid revealing too much about McCaffrey’s availability. “It’s been a good two days. I’m playing around a little bit, but he’s been unbelievable these last two days, so I hope he keeps going well and I hope he comes out.”

“You never know if there will be a setback or something, but these two days have been fantastic and I hope to see him out there.”

The 49ers, who currently have a 4-4 record, aim to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season after defeating the Dallas Cowboys before their bye week.
