Ruud van Nistelrooy’s former Manchester United teammate explains why he should leave the club before Ruben Amorim arrives

Ruud van Nistelrooy is too good to be Ruben Amorim’s assistant and is ready to be a permanent coach again.

This is the view of Paul Scholes, who has told his former Manchester United team-mate to get a top job elsewhere rather than return to No. 2.

The former striker currently works as united manThe interim boss after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag last month.

Van Nistelrooy, who arrived as Ten Hag assistant coach, has won two matches and drawn one since taking over on an interim basis.

With Ruben Amorim start to will take over as head coach next weekSpeculation continues to swirl around Van Nistelrooy’s future as he seeks a role in Amorim’s secret team at Old Trafford.

But rather than wait for his old job as assistant boss to emerge, Man United legend Scholes, who played under Van Nistelrooy for five years at Old Trafford, believes the former PSV Eindhoven boss would be falling short.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes said: “He looks like a coach, that passion is there and he even dresses like a coach.

“He just speaks well, doesn’t he?

“He’s nice, calm, relaxed and goes about his business very well and I’m pretty sure he should get the coaching bug back.

“When you’ve done it and been successful like him in Holland, going back to being an assistant must be quite difficult.

“I asked him about it before the game because there are certain things you would want to do and you don’t agree with the coach and you can say it, but it doesn’t matter because the responsibility is the coach’s.

“I don’t know if he will stay, it will depend on the new men and INEOS, but I think he should be a coach.

“In his three games he won the Dutch Cup, he won other things and it seems that he is made to be a coach.

“I don’t think I should be anyone’s; I don’t want to say a puppy, but I think it’s better than being an assistant manager; I think I should manage a club.”

Scholes continued: “There’s a presence to him.

“He just seems like a coach and he seems to have a very good way with his players, when they came out they were respectful to him and so it feels good for Ruud to go on and become a coach.

“But if he wants to stay, he has a contract for the next 18 months and if the powers that be still want him, why not?”

Van Nistelrooy will lead Man United for the final time on Sunday when they host Leicester in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
