Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a police-involved shooting in Orillia, Ont., that left one person dead and one officer seriously injured.

The shooting occurred on Cochrane Street on Thursday shortly before 2 p.m.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central Region said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that its Orillia detachment is “actively engaged” in an investigation.

The OPP urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the areas of West Street S. at Cochrane Street and Matchedash Street S. at Cochrane Street in Orillia.
