Michigan man receives up to 40 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor

CALHOUN COUNTY, Michigan. – A Michigan man was sentenced to 17 to 40 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor over several years, authorities said.

John Hendrickson, 59, of Bellaire, had pleaded no contest to four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in August.

In January, he was also charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Allegan County and another county in Calhoun County, but they were dismissed due to the plea agreement.

Following his prison sentence, Hendrickson will have lifetime electronic monitoring and a sex offender registry.

“Sexual assault is a heinous crime that leaves lasting scars,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said at the time the defendant pleaded guilty. “I am grateful that we were able to secure justice for the victim in this case without prolonging her suffering with a trial. The victim’s bravery in coming forward after years of abuse is truly inspiring. “I want to assure all victims of sexual assault that my Department is committed to supporting survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable, no matter how many years have passed.”
