Woman sentenced to jail and probation for driving school bus while intoxicated with students on board

A woman accused of driving a school bus drunk off the road with dozens of students on board was sentenced to prison and probation in Chisago County Court.

Kara Jean Ffrench, 59, had a drunken driving charge dismissed, but she will still have to serve jail time and spend years on probation for a separate DWI charge.

Ffrench was initially sentenced to 364 days in the Chisago County Jail. However, a judge chose to sentence her to spend 15 days behind bars and the other 349 days will be suspended during 4 years of probation. Ffrench also received four days of credit for time served.

Back in FebruaryFfrench was arrested on suspicion of handicap after a bus carrying four dozen students left a road in Rush City.

The bus, carrying 49 Rush City Schools students at the time, left the road on Game Avenue, north of Tiger Trail, just before 8:15 a.m. Chisago County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the location of the bus and reportedly saw Ffrench. the bus driver, who showed signs of deterioration, which led to his arrest.

None of the students on the bus were injured.
