Heyman listed eight landing spots for Alonso if he were to leave the Mets and, interestingly, the New York Yankees They are not one of them. This could change if the Yankees miss juan soto (maybe with the Mets), but for now, Alonso is not linked to the Yankees, which is great news for Mets fans. The San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners figure to be the top two landing spots for Alonso. While both could use a big bat, how realistic is the fit in either spot? Next on the list are the Houston Astros, a team Heyman believes is more focused on re-signing Alex Bregman. If they lose Bregman that might be a more realistic option, but for now, there’s not much to worry about on that front.

Teams like the Toronto Blue Jays (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.), the Boston Red Sox (Triston Casas) and the Philadelphia Phillies (Bryce Harper) are on this list, but they have first base occupied. Sure, the Blue Jays could move Guerrero to third base and the Phillies could move Harper back to the outfield, but how smart would those decisions be? What are the chances of the Red Sox trading Casas just to make room for Alonso?

The conclusion here is that yes, these teams could pursue Alonso, there is even more reason to believe that Alonso will not end up signing with any of these teams. If he left the Mets, the Yankees would make more sense on paper, but they’re not even on this list. Assuming Alonso wants to remain a Met, this list gives Mets fans more reason to believe he will end up re-signing after all.
