A 77-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was assaulted while walking down the street in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said the woman was attacked by a man and left unconscious on the ground on Shiregreen Lane, near Concord Sports Center at 10:55 GMT on Tuesday.

Her purse and wallet were found dumped nearby, and it is believed around £50 and a bank card had been stolen.

A force spokesman said the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remained until Thursday afternoon.
