GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – In a letter to fans, University of Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin confirmed his intention to keep Bill Napier, the football team’s head coach, despite a disappointing season.

Stricklin references the improvement of the UF Gator football team and the need for stability in his letter.

Florida was previously criticized for its lack of patience with the head football coaching position that changes every three to four years since Urban Meyer left the program.

Napier’s job status was thrown into doubt earlier this season after embarrassing home losses to Miami and Texas A&M.

The Gators have improved on the field since then, but are a three-touchdown underdog this weekend. They are now expected to start a third quarterback against Texas in Austin.

Stricklin’s letter to Gator Nation is published below in its entirety:

I wanted to let you know that Billy Napier will continue as head football coach of the Florida Gators.

As we have seen in recent weeks, the young men on this team represent what it means to be a Gator. His determination, effort and execution are evident in his performance and growth each week, building a foundation that promises greater success next season and beyond.

UF’s commitment to excellence and a championship-caliber program is unwavering. In these times of change in college athletics, we are dedicated to a disciplined and stable approach that focuses on sustained, long-term success for Gator athletes, recruits and fans.

I am confident that Billy will meet the challenges and opportunities ahead. We will work alongside him to support any changes necessary to elevate Gator football. As college athletics evolve, UF is committed to embracing innovation and strategy, ensuring the Gators thrive in today’s competitive landscape.

Gator Nation has remained strong, showing up game after game to support our team. This loyalty creates an incredible environment that inspires our players to compete with heart and determination.
