Evansville man arrested for attempted murder after shooting

EVANSVILLE — Police arrested a suspect Tuesday night following a shooting that left a man critically injured on Evansville’s East Side.

According to a news release from the Evansville Police Department, Jarid M. Baltzell, 39, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail Wednesday morning.

Officers who arrived on scene in the 4400 block of Washington Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday reported locating a man who had suffered “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to Sgt. Trudy Day of the Evansville Police Department.

The victim, whose name has not been identified by authorities, was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known Wednesday morning.

“Officers were able to quickly establish that the victim and suspect knew each other,” Day wrote in a news release. “This was not a random act of violence. We were able to apprehend (the suspect) early (Wednesday) morning. The suspect is currently being questioned by detectives.”

Day added that investigators planned to execute additional search warrants Wednesday morning.
