The injury-time defeat to Tottenham “was really hard to take” and Skinner said “everyone is motivated to put that right this weekend.”

Assessing where the team is overall this season, Skinner said: “I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made and the performances we’ve had, but we all know it’s about winning.”

He said West Ham fans “have been through a lot of changes and inconsistencies” but praised them for staying “solid” and supporting the team.

And he added: “The numbers of our fans are increasing because the club has done a good job to make us more visible.”

After drawing twice against Leicester last season, Skinner is expecting another close game, but said: “Every game we feel positive about getting something out of it. We just need to get one over the line.”

On what he wants to see against Leicester, Skinner added: “We want to have a more attacking and positive mentality on the ball.”
