Man sentenced for stabbing ex-wife’s new partner multiple times in front of their children in Oakland County

FARMINGTON Hills, Michigan. – A man who stabbed his ex-wife’s new partner in Farmington Hills last yearand pushed him down in the chest to make him bleed while his children were in the room, has been sentenced.

This week, Curtis Leroy Washington Jr. was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison for one count of assault with intent to murder, along with a second count of domestic violence.

Background of the case

The stabbing occurred around 1:50 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Timberidge Apartments near Grand River Avenue and Middlebelt Road.

Washington allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s home and found his new partner there.

He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man once in the back and four times in the chest, according to police.

Body camera video showed Washington pushing on the man’s chest after he stabbed him, drawing blood.

All of this happened with Washington’s youngest child and her baby in the room, just inches away.

The responding officers quickly assessed the situation and decided not to shoot. Officers then worked to rescue the stabbing victim.

“This very easily could have escalated to a fatal force situation,” Farmington Hills Police Department Chief Jeff King said last year after the shooting. “The suspect had an up and down motion on top of the victim in a chaotic low light situation. “These officers, because of the quality and ongoing training that they have, were able to assess that situation and quickly decided not to use that escalated force response.”

This stabbing was not the first time Washington was involved in a domestic violence dispute. Sixteen days before this happened, Washington was arrested for domestic violence and released on bail.
