“Unlike anyone I’ve ever coached”

When you’ve won six Super Bowls as an NFL head coach, your words carry a little weight.

So when former Patriots coach Bill Belichick has plenty of praise for an often overlooked ex. jeans legend, means a little more.

Belichick did just that during the Monday Night Football broadcast between the Chiefs and Buccaneers, taking a moment during his appearance with Peyton and Eli Manning to shed some light on just how great a player (and what a great man) the former NFL cornerback is. Cowboys, Everson. The walls were.

Belichick coached Walls during his two years with the Giants and said that when Walls arrived in New York he was “the most unorthodox cornerback” Belichick had ever coached.

“Still, I’ve never seen anyone play like him,” Belichick attested. “57 interceptions in his career, he had a great career, he should probably be in the Hall of Fame. I told Everson when we caught him, I said, ‘Look Everson, I’ll never tell anyone to cover up the way you do it, I don’t know how you do it, I don’t believe in it, but I’ll let you do it your way because you still have success with it.’”

The revelation about Bill Belichick and Parcells that former Cowboy Everson Walls says “absolutely blew me away”

Walls’ 57 picks rank 14th all-time in NFL history. He made four Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro, but in his final year of Hall of Fame eligibility, he didn’t make it past the cut from 15 to 10. If Walls makes it in the future, he’ll be selected at through the Senior Hall Committee.

Belichick closed the segment by referencing Everson’s great act of altruism, like in 2007. Walls donated a kidney to former Cowboys teammate Ron Springs.

With his kidney, former Cowboy Walls offers his former teammate Springs the opportunity for a better life

“A really selfless player,” Belichick said. “Walls’ technique is unlike any corner I’ve ever coached.”
