One protester was seen standing in the central plaza holding a sign that read: “Fascism: not welcome in Philadelphia.” “The result of the vote is extremely worrying,” protester Isabel said, as reported by RFI. “But I’m not surprised.”

“I will let people know that racism is not acceptable,” he added. “Sexism, homophobia and fascism are not acceptable in this country. I’m angry and sad, I’m terrified. I think a lot of people are.”

Cathy O’Connel, who was headed to work, agreed. “I am incredibly disappointed in Americans today,” she said. “Last night I came in feeling a little bit of hope, and I think Philadelphia voted for Kamala, which is the reasonable vote.”

“I am sincerely surprised that the results were like this”

Figures released by the Philadelphia city government showed that 528,783 Philadelphians, or 78.29 percent of voters, voted yes. Kamala Harrisbut this clearly does not reflect the mood nationally. “I don’t understand how Americans can vote for someone who runs a campaign that’s all about power for himself, power that he doesn’t plan to share with anyone who voted for him,” O’Connel said.

“I’m honestly surprised the results were like this,” Denver Robbins said. “I didn’t think most people in America thought voting him to win was a good idea.”

Robins, however, said he was glad there were no riots in Philadelphia and no violence broke out. “I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was Tuesday night and Wednesday,” he said.

Another person, Landy, said he feels like “a lot of votes weren’t counted.” “A lot of Democrats voted yesterday. I’m frustrated by that. But what can we do?” said.

“People have to realize that the president still answers to someone. Just because Trump is in power doesn’t mean we just give up. I think it’s up to the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, there are also anti-Trump protests in Chicago, including by the Palestinian Community Network of America. Some people on social media blamed Harris’ rhetoric for the protests. One post is titled, in part, “Harris’ statement that ‘the fight is not over’ appears to add to this call for resistance against the will of the people.”
