Chesapeake Residents Vote No to Curbside Recycling

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — As voting began on Election Day Nov. 5, Chesapeake residents voted “no” on the proposed recycling program.

Only 37% of Chesapeake voters wanted curbside recycling, as those in favor were defeated by nearly 30,000 votes.

Chesapeake City Council votes to put curbside recycling program on November ballot

News 3 has been following the issue of recycling in Chesapeake for months, as in March, more than 1,000 Chesapeake residents signed a petition to bring back curbside recycling.

In July, the Chesapeake City Council voted 8-1 to put the recycling program on the November ballot. If adopted, curbside recycling would cause Chesapeake households to pay mandatory fees of $10 a month for the service.
