Concerned DeKalb neighbors say mail is still being stolen after thieves stole kiosk key from mailman

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Wyndham Falls Estates neighborhood in DeKalb County is concerned after neighbors say the mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint the day before Halloween and the master key to the mail kiosk was stolen. .

“I feel scared. “I’m an older woman and now I’m afraid to go there to pick up my mail,” said María, who has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years.

“I came here that night, looked around, made sure everything was okay and there was nothing there, and I’m sure I had mail,” said Pierre, who just moved to the neighborhood.

Since the key was stolen, neighbors’ Ring cameras have captured men approaching the kiosk and taking packages on multiple occasions.

“I want my own mailbox. “It would be nice,” Pierre said. “I don’t even want to come here to do this. “I would prefer if we had our own mailbox.”

Neighbors have gone to the post office to request that their mail be stopped and that the locks and keys be changed, but they say the post office has not been clear about what they are doing to fix the situation.

“Has the password been changed? What is happening? I still don’t have email there. I just checked it. There’s nothing there,” Pierre said.

Atlanta News First contacted the US Postal Service. Spokesperson Tiffany Rowland issued this statement:

“The security and sanctity of mail is of utmost importance to the United States Postal Service. This includes ensuring mail containers are always secured. The local postal administration is aware of the issue regarding mail containers in the Wyndham Falls Estates neighborhood. The Postal Service is taking immediate steps to ensure the safe delivery of mail at this location. “We will work with property management to quickly resolve any issues for our customers and will provide additional information as it becomes available.”

Neighbors also want more police protection.

“Can you at least give us a couple of hours or three hours a day to patrol back and forth?” Maria said.

Atlanta News First contacted the DeKalb County Police Department and was told they were investigating the matter.

“It’s not good. I need to know. I’m new. I have things coming up. “I need all my things,” Pierre said.

The US Postal Service encourages anyone who believes their mail has been removed from the neighborhood to contact postal inspectors at 877-876-2455 and select Option 2.
