Bruins in search of final playoff spot 9-5A-DI

The task is simple for the West Brook Bruins in Week 11: win or go home.

“For us the playoffs come a week early,” West Brook football coach Chuck Langston said. “It’s a week before the playoffs for us. We have to win the game. We have to be great.”

It’s a tight race for the final playoff spot in District 9-5A-DI, with West Brook having a chance for the first time in four years.

“Just putting in the work on the field: blood, sweat, tears, just to get to this point now,” sophomore quarterback Tam Anderson said.

The Bruins are 2-3 in the district and a win over Barbers Hill would see the Bruins own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for us, but I think our guys are up to it,” Langston said. “We’re going to have to execute and play very well for four quarters.”

Barbers Hill is a team that likes to run the ball and push the pace, so the West Brook Bruins are focusing on speed coming into this matchup so they can see the results on the scoreboard and see their dreams come true. – for those who have been working since last November.

“I’m like a 99, he likes 87 speed and he’s like an 82,” senior linebacker Jarvis Bassett said. “My sons and I will take care of business there.”

Those experienced linebackers plan to protect a young, hungry quarterback ready to lead the charge.

“I trust these guys every day I come here, and I just hope they trust me,” Anderson said. “When they start to get down and I try to pick them up, they just listen.”

Five schools are still eligible, just four postseason berths, all as of this Friday night.

“We’re going to the playoffs,” Bassett and a few other linebackers said. “We said it here first.”
