LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – District 5 voters have chosen to re-elect Rubén Gutiérrez to the City Council. Competing against rivals Jesse Pérez and José Ovando, Gutiérrez won decisively with 58% of the vote, avoiding a second round.

When discussing his priorities for a second term, Councilman Gutiérrez emphasized the importance of securing a secondary source of water for the city’s long-term future: “It is crucial not only for District 5 but for the entire city that we move forward with a secondary source of water. to ensure a reliable supply for the next 60, 100 or even 150 years.” Gutiérrez also emphasized the need to improve infrastructure to provide safe drinking water that residents can rely on.
