Manchester United have been boosted by the return of centre-back Leny Yoro to team training ahead of the Europa League match against Greek side PAOK after he recovered from a foot injury, interim coach Ruud van said on Wednesday. Nistelrooy.

“He’s been treated very well since his injury in pre-season. We knew it would be a long season. It’s a great moment for him, that first time returning to team training,” Van Nistelrooy told reporters before Thursday’s game at Old Trafford.

“Obviously we will partially recover it in the coming weeks and we will look to recover it as quickly as possible.”

The 48-year-old former United striker, who takes over following the sacking of compatriot Erik ten Hag, was also asked about his future at the club.

United announced last Friday the appointment of Portuguese Rubén Amorim. He will arrive from Primeira Liga club Sporting on November 11 with a contract until June 2027.

Amorim, 39, celebrated his final home game as Sporting manager in stunning fashion as his team beat reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“It’s difficult to comment on that now, I’m waiting for talks to happen,” Van Nistelrooy said of his future.

“Meanwhile, the most important thing is to do the daily work and in tomorrow’s game in Europe. I have to say that I feel the responsibility to do well during the next week and that is my job. I am focused on this.

“I welcome Rubén, I am happy to be able to help him and that is the situation at the moment.”
