PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Teachers in Pueblo County District 70 may not receive a raise as Ballot Question 4A or the Mill Levy Override is expected to fail.

This ballot issue would have given D70 additional funds to fix infrastructure problems and make teacher salaries more competitive.

Right now, teachers in D70 earn an average of $42,500 a year compared to teachers in neighboring districts who earn an average of $68,250.

Money from this tax would also go toward major infrastructure repairs in D70, such as the septic and sewer system at Pueblo County High School, as well as a new roof for the school.

In a statement from a District 70 spokesperson, they tell us, “While we are disappointed by this, we respect our voters’ decision regarding the repeal of the mill tax.”

District 70 goes on to say, “Pueblo County School District 70 remains committed to providing safe learning environments and quality education for all students. However, without this additional funding, we face significant challenges in addressing our aging infrastructure and other critical needs. We will continue to prioritize student safety and educational excellence. “We are grateful for the continued support of our staff, families and community partners as we navigate these financial challenges and work to find solutions that best serve our students and schools.”
