MILWAUKEE – “You know you could have killed someone, right?”

That’s what a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy told the man accused of drunken and wrong-way driving two weeks ago, right in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ motorcade.

New body camera footage shows us Wayne Waker’s failed field sobriety tests and arrest on Interstate 94 near the Marquette interchange.

He is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.

Wacker was not only questioned by officers at the scene. Secret Service agents wanted to know if he knew that Vice President Harris was in town and if he was involved with any extremist groups. Wacker insisted he had no intention of harming anyone.

The sheriff’s office body camera footage takes us back to the night of October 21st.

“Where are you coming from tonight, my boss?” asked a deputy.

“I don’t know,” Wacker responded.

Officers approached Wacker, who was detained on the shoulder of the interstate.

“Clearly too much to drink even with your Miller Lite here, huh?” asked a deputy.

“It doesn’t matter,” Wacker responded.

Wacker claimed he drank two beers before hitting the road. Officers noted that it took him about ten minutes to find his wallet and he struggled to remove his seat belt before getting out of the car.

That’s when Secret Service agents moved in to get answers.

“Did you see a bunch of cars passing by and you going in the opposite direction?” the agent asked.

“No,” Wacker responded.

Wacker told officers he is not part of any extremist group.

His answer was less clear when asked if he knew Vice President Harris was in town for a campaign event.

“No, well, I guess so,” he said.

“Is that the reason you’re going the wrong way on the highway?” the agent asked. Wacker said no.

During Wacker’s field sobriety tests, he was unable to walk in a straight line and laughed as he stumbled.

Wacker agreed to submit to a preliminary breathalyzer test. He recorded a blood alcohol concentration of .252.

“That’s more than three times the legal limit,” said one deputy. “Wayne, you’re getting arrested for OWI tonight, okay?”

Wacker is scheduled to return to court Nov. 18 for a preliminary hearing. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
