Arizona Cardinals meet Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets still dangerous

ARIZONA — Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon doesn’t need to be told twice about the magic of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Already one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, Rodgers is looking to expand his legacy with another Super Bowl after accomplishing the feat with the Green Bay Packers in 2010.

It hasn’t been easy this season for the Jets, who are off to a 3-6 start and already fired their previous head coach, Robert Saleh.

Still, with Davante Adams now on the roster and more time together for Rodgers and his offense, the Cardinals aren’t going to overlook anyone in New York.

“A good football team comes here. I don’t really think their record is their record, but it’s a good football team. Very talented, well-coached (in) three phases. (They have) impact players on defense. impact players at all three levels,” Gannon told reporters today.

“Offensively, a really good running back. Obviously the quarterback is still doing his thing and some guys with really good skills, so (it’s) a big challenge.”

Gannon then dove deeper into Rodgers:

“He can turn it. You’re not going to fool him. The extension is still real, but the precision and timing of it makes you pay. If you make a little mistake, he’ll make you pay, so we have to play with good technique,” Gannon said.

“…You just know certain things you can do and certain things you can’t, but every team is different. He’s on a new team, we’re on a new team. You have different pieces, different players, different schemes, but you take some of your experience. You’re not going to trick him, you’re not going to hit him as much as you can and you have to play well at the back.”

The Cardinals also know what the Jets bring to the table on defense.

“Their front is really good, they have good linebackers and guys that can cover. At all three levels they have star power and guys who win a lot one-on-one,” Gannon said.

“I think they play well together as a whole. Speaking of ‘Brich,’ I think he does a good job of coordinating what they do, but giving you enough curveballs that you can’t just bank them for certain things. It starts with his front and his front can get to it.”

Arizona, coming off a three-game winning streak, hasn’t changed its mindset in the slightest heading into its final game before the bye week arrives.

“No, today it’s all business.”
