Harris will not give up ‘the fight that fueled this campaign’

Although he conceded the election before a crowd of supporters at Howard University Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris He promised that he would never abandon “the fight that fueled this campaign.”

“I know people are feeling and experiencing a variety of emotions right now. I understand. But we must accept the results of this election. early today I spoke with President-elect Trump and I congratulated him on his victory,” Harris said to boos from the crowd.

“I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition. And that we will participate in a peaceful transfer of power,” he said as the crowd erupted in cheers and applause.

Harris continued:

A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election we accept the results. That principle, more than any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny. And anyone who seeks the public’s trust must honor it.

At the same time, in our nation we owe allegiance not to a president or a party but to the Constitution of the United States. And loyalty to our conscience and our god. My loyalty to all three is why I am here to say that while I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign. The fight for freedom, opportunity, justice and dignity for all people. A fight for ideals at the heart of our nation. The ideals that reflect the best of America. That is a fight I will never abandon.

I will never give up the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions and aspirations. Where women in America have the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies and not be told what to do by their government. We will never give up the fight to protect our schools and our streets from gun violence. And we, America, will never give up the fight for our democracy, for the rule of law, for equal justice, and for the sacred idea that each of us, no matter who we are or where we start, has certain fundamental rights. and freedoms that must be respected and defended.
