A pair of former 76ers guards come to the defense of Joel Embiid

Despite not playing any games this season yet, Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid has been one of the most talked about players in the NBA. After an alleged altercation last Saturday night, the former MVP was investigated for the second time this year.

The first investigation had to do with Embiid not dressing in the Sixers’ opening game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The league later determined that the organization had made inconsistent statements about her health and was fined $100,000.

Over the weekend, the NBA announced it will reinvestigate the superstar center. This time, for his actions in the locker room after the Sixers’ confrontation against the Memphis Grizzlies. Embiid reportedly got physical with a member of the media after he wrote a few words about his late brother and son in a column.

Since reports of this alleged altercation emerged, numerous people have shared their opinions on the situation. Some have even defended Embiid’s actions, including a pair of former Sixers guards. Among those who did so was Lou Williams, who shared his thoughts on ‘Run It Back’ by FanDuel TV show.

“With that, Joel, I think you responded appropriately.” williams said. “He is able to defend himself. He went on and gave you a long list of things he has sacrificed to give them the opportunity to succeed in that city. When you write an article like that and bring up the family, especially the deceased family, you cross one line.”

The former Sixth Man of the Year also reposted his statements on X (formerly Twitter) to double down on what he said.

The other former Sixer who shared his thoughts was Jason Richardson. He also made a post about X coming to the aid of the big star man. Richardson was still with the team when Embiid lost his brother and understands how hard it took the loss of a family member.

On Tuesday, the NBA made an official decision. The league announced that Embiid would suffer a three-game suspension. The suspension would begin as soon as he is cleared to play. According to the Sixers’ injury report, the first game of the suspension will begin Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
